The Winter School, held on November 25-26 in Vila Nova de Gaia, brought together students and experts to discuss the current state of knowledge on Disinfection By-Products (DBPs), Contaminants of Emerging Concern (CECs) and microbial contamination. The event focused on recent developments regarding the occurrence, impact, and elimination of these contaminants with the goal of finding solutions for ensuring safe drinking water and alternative water sources for agricultural use.

Researchers from LNEC and UCP, members of the LIFE Fitting project, actively participated in the event, which provided a valuable platform for networking and knowledge exchange among key stakeholders. The program featured a range of thematic workshops, lectures, and exhibitions on water treatment technologies and services.

One of the highlights of the event was a LIFE Fitting presentation by Catarina Silva from LNEC, who presented “Demonstrating the Control of Pharmaceutical Compounds in Large Activated Sludge Wastewater Treatment Plants” to a diverse audience of national and international students, researchers, and industry representatives.
